FORT SILL, OK (KSWO)- While Veterans Day is officially tomorrow, today, Fort Sill held a Veterans Day ceremony to honor the men and women who have served our country.

Members from the Army and the community gathered at Kerwin Auditorium inside of Snow Hall for the ceremony. Everyone at the ceremony was joyful as they were thanked for all of their hard work. Music was played by the 77th United States Army Band.

Chaplain John Morris presented the posting of the colors and gave a narrative of Veterans Day. The ceremony featured Oklahoma V-F-W Junior Vice Commander Coral Porch.

Porch is the Oklahoma Veterans of Foreign Wars Female Veteran of the Year. She said although the ceremony is about honoring others, it was a high accomplishment to be recognized as female veteran of the year this Veterans Day.

"In the state of Oklahoma it is breaking some glass ceilings. It's showing that females can be in the leadership position. She serves too! It's not just my family members, it's myself and a lot of people discredit the female serving.", said Porch

Major General Brian McKiernan, Commanding General of U.S Army Fires Center of Excellence and Fort Sill, delivered remarks about how great is to serve and be a citizen in the country.

The ceremony also featured Avry Keck, who is a senior at Lawton High School. Keck is the V-F-W Post 1193 Voice of Democracy Essay winner. He won a scholarship and will attend the University of Oklahoma.
