Arrest made in fire that destroyed Oklahoma school's football gear

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - An 18-year-old Little Axe volunteer firefighter has been arrested for a fire at the Little Axe High School Field House that destroyed much of the school's football equipment.

Norman public safety spokeswoman Sarah Jensen says the man was arrested Thursday and is being held in the Cleveland County jail on five counts of arson after admitting to setting four other fires in the area.

Online court records do not show that the man has been formally charged.

The Aug. 22 fire at the field house caused an estimated $50,000 to $80,000 in damage to a locker room and heavily damaged football helmets, jerseys, pads, cleats and other gear.

Several Oklahoma schools donated equipment and gear to the school to allow the team to play this season.
