OSBI investigating arson-murder in Sayre

SAYRE, Ok (KSWO) – The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has been called to assist in a arson/homicide investigation in Sayre, Oklahoma.

According to the OSBI, firefighters responded to a house fire in the 200 block of S. Broadway. When firefighters and police arrived they were given a tip that there was a homicide victim in the residence. A badly burned body was discovered by firefighters.

The victim’s wife told special agents she witnessed Jerry Essary’s murder and was able to flee the scene before the suspect set the house on fire. She hid in the neighborhood until law enforcement responded to the scene.

The suspect was found unresponsive in his pickup truck approximately 100 yards from the home where the homicide and arson took place.

The suspect and wife were transported to the hospital to be assessed by medical personnel. OSBI says they will release the name of the suspect after he is arrested.
