LAWTON, OK (KSWO) - The holiday season is here and with that comes the opportunity to give to those in need.

This weekend is the 7News "Share your Christmas" Drive, where the goal is to fill a semi with clothes, food and toys for families in our area.

The event kicks off Saturday at 9 a.m. and is a very convenient way for everybody to help out.

"Everybody goes to Walmart sometime in the holidays, so it's going to make it very easy to donate, if they're shopping they can just pick up a few extra things to donate to share your Christmas, it's wonderful, we're very excited about this,” Executive Director of the Lawton Food Bank Jeri Mosiman said.

"The Lawton food bank says every single donation helps, whether you're looking to grab some baked beans, looking to get some chili or anything else. All the food goes towards serving the 1,500 people they serve each month, many of whom are kids at home on their holiday breaks."

"I can't imagine anything worse than a child coming to you saying 'mommy I'm hungry' and you have to say you have no food to give them. So, we want to make sure everyone has access to food that needs it,” Mosiman said.

We also need toys and children's clothes for The Salvation Army.

"Kid’s clothes, kid’s toys, shoes, all sorts of Christmas presents we can use,” Captain Israel Roseno of The Lawton Salvation Army said. “We also have a shelter so we can use some bedding, some towels, some cleaning supplies. Disposable plates, forks, knives spoons. So, there are lots of things the Salvation Army can use throughout the year. Whoever wants to is more than welcome to donate, obviously, for us, it is a joy."

7News will be at the Walmart on Sheridan all day on Saturday, but donations can be dropped off at any of the three Wal-Marts in town, including the Neighborhood Market.

"It's very important for us to be a part of the community, help the people that are in need, whether that's with food, we work directly with our Lawton food bank and our Salvation Army,” Walmart Store Manager William Jones said. “The opportunity for us to all come together for one drive, one event that's what we want to do."

7news anchors and reporters will be at the Sheridan Road Walmart on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., so we hope you'll bring out your donations, chat and maybe take a selfie or two with us. We'll be at the north end of the parking lot.
