FORT SILL, OK (KSWO) -For 75 years, the USO or United Service Organization has been dedicated to supporting America's service members.  Today the only USO facility in the state opened its doors at Fort Sill. The organization is housed inside a former bar on post.

It holds gaming systems, pool tables, a reading nook and more.Just within the past year, Fort Sill saw a need for the facility and accepted an offer with the organization.  It gives soldiers a place to unwind after a long day of work to relax and have fun.

Specialist Lauren Tussey usually spends her time at the library, but said she's excited to finally have a place to do something fun or just kick back.

"This is a nice break for us, a lot of us are going through training Monday through Friday, its pretty rigorous and you just kind of want to laugh with your friends and smile with your friends  and this is definitely going to provide a more open atmosphere", said Tussey.

While there are many things for the soldiers to do like play video games, read a book, or use the computers,  Specialist Tussey said playing pool with her friends will probably be her favorite thing to do.

"I like the pool tables. I'm not much of a gamer. The pool I think is really fun because you get to have more of a conversation with everybody while you play", said Tussey.

The Fort Sill USO is the only facility in the state of Oklahoma. The USO organization was looking to install more facilities across the nation. Fort Sill met their criteria and work began to get the facility ready. Jennifer Kirby is the Center Director for USO, Oklahoma, and said it's especially exciting for the soldiers.

"They are ecstatic! They are surprised that will have a USO on installation. Many of them used USO's across the world and in airports. To actually have one where they work stateside is such a treat", said Kirby.

As director, Kirby adds it's also an honor, and privilege to be a part of providing something so special to our soldiers.

"To be embedded with our service members is.. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. It is a passion of mine and I honestly consider it an honor to build this from the ground up", said Kirby.

For over 75 years, the USO has been the nation's leading organization to serve the men and women in the U.S. military, and their families. From the moment they join, through their assignments and deployments, and as they transition back to their communities.

Kirby says the organization also offer families outreach programs where they actually go to soldiers in the field to show them how much they care.

"Sometimes it's in the form of baked goodies , sometimes its just in the form of a smile and a handshake and saying thank you for what you do", said Kirby.

The U-S-O facility will be open Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m.until  8 p.m. On the weekends, it will close between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.
The organization says they are always looking for volunteers. If you would like to get involved visit the USO website.
