LAWTON, OK (KSWO) - The Lawton Police Department added 2 new motorcycles to its fleet.

The new Yamaha's cost $23,000 each and were funded through the city's budget.  Each motorcycle has a windshield that moves up and down to help reduce wind noise. They also have heated hand grips, which have 3 different settings. They are lighter, faster and turn sharper than the Harley-Davidson motorcycles the department currently uses.

"By getting new motorcycles we are able to adapt and change to what other agencies are doing and what other people are doing. These motorcycles will help stand out. people will see them, people will be able to say 'hey that's a cop' and they will stop," said  Sergeant Tim Jenkins.

In addition to the two new Yamaha's, the police department has five Harley-Davidson motorcycles they also use.

Officers will be in full effect using the bikes starting Monday.
