Duncan teacher surprised with full furniture set

DUNCAN, OK (KSWO) – The Oklahoma Education Association and Galleria Furniture worked together to surprise a local teacher with a full furniture set for Christmas.

Terry Evans, a special education teacher of 30 years, received a full living room set, a Christmas meal and gifts for her family during a special presentation Thursday afternoon at Woodrow Wilson Elementary.

Evans was hospitalized last January for heart issues stemming from chemotherapy, and though she has been able to work, her medical bills have been a source of hardship.

Because of these troubles – and her continued dedication to her students – Galleria Furniture selected Evans for their Christmas presentation.

Galleria manager Shawn Walters says his company was more than happy to lend a helping hand to a woman who gave so much to her students.

“We want to serve the people who serve us,” he said. “The biggest point of all is to help people who are always helping us, helping our children, helping the world be a better place.”

Evans had no idea she was going to receive such a major gift – and she said she was humbled and grateful beyond words.

“It really was very overwhelming, so I’m very appreciative,” she said. “This is such a blessing – I never dreamed this would be true.”

Evans was also gifted a copy of her favorite Christmas story,  “The Twelve Days of Christmas."
