PLACERVILLE, CA (KCRA/CNN) - The search is on for a real-life Grinch in a California county.
Someone stole the Christmas tree that was placed outside the Placerville News Company.
It has been a long-time tradition for the area to have a tree in front of the historic building.
The person stole the Christmas tree, but not the Christmas spirit.
An anonymous donor provided a new Christmas tree for the news company.
Jeff Maeder of the Placerville News Company said the news was a sad surprise to him.
"A customer came and was like, where is the tree? What do you mean where is the tree? So it was sad," Maeder said.
Coralie Persse was one of the many resident upset after finding out about the stolen Christmas tree.
"Well I was really pissed off and I thought if I could get my hands on those little rascals,” Persse said.
The tradition of letting the community help decorate the Christmas tree outside the building began in 1998.
