OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (KOCO) — An Oklahoma mother is accused of falsely claiming that her children were taken during a carjacking on March 1st in southwest Oklahoma City.

Melissa Wevers, 20, told police that a man assaulted her while she was pulled over changing a diaper and took her vehicle with two children in the backseat.

According to police, the children, ages 1 and 2, were found safe at their grandmother's house. The vehicle reported stolen may have been the grandmother’s car. Authorities told KOCO that the incident appears to be part of a child-custody dispute.

Wevers was arrested for filing a false report of a crime including an amber alert.
