Loss of funding causes roadblock in solving OK cold/missing person cases

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (KFOR) – The Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s office will no longer be funded by the National Institute of Justice grant to solve cold cases.

According to KFOR, the Using DNA Technology to Identify the Missing grant was awarded to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification and Oklahoma sent all samples there at no cost for many years.

However, the grant is no longer funded. Oklahoma will no longer be able to use that lab without paying. The Medical Examiner’s Office is concerned that this new roadblock could slow the solving of cold and missing person cases across the state.
