LAWTON, OK (KSWO)- Young chefs from ten Lawton schools gathered today for the Future Chef's Challenge hosted by Sodexo food services.

Fourth and fifth-grade students whipped up their best, healthy, comfort food recipe.

Lawton Public Schools is just one of two hundred fifty-six school districts across the country to participate in this event.

The day started with entertainment from Lawton High School strings orchestra and a performance from John Adams cloggers.

Contestants were judged by a panel of community members in the areas of originality, taste, ease of presentation, kid-friendliness and healthy ingredient choice.

Those dishes ranged from sandwiches, taco salad all the way to banana oatmeal cookies.

Avery Brown was the overall winner for best dish, impressing the judges with how creative and healthy her dish was.

Avery says she’s been inspired all year to make this meal.

“Last year I was in the cooking competition and I wanted to do it again so I could win,” said Avery.

Avery is now district champion will move on to be considered for a regional finalist award.
