DHS raises enough during Halo Week to sponsor 20 athletes

DUNCAN, OK (KSWO)- After 10 years of waiting, some local students are headed to the state Special Olympics.

It is 'Halo Week' at Duncan High School. HALO stands for 'helpful attitudes leading others'.  The week's event was put on by the student council. They had a goal of raising $20,000 through various activities, including movie night, mini golf, and bingo.

Today was the big reveal and they raised $23,000. That means 20 special education athletes are headed to the Special Olympics.

“Oh, it's awesome! It's just really rewarding. They are always supporting us. They are always cheering us on and being able to do something for them is really, really been a great, rewarding experience,” said Graham Cox, the student council president.

The Oklahoma Special Olympics will take place May 17th though the 19th in Stillwater.
