OK Dept of Veteran Affairs turnover rate causes extensive overtime hours for remaining employees

OK (KSWO)- An investigation conducted by Tulsa World found the Oklahoma Department of Veteran's Affairs has a 62 percent turnover rate in the last two years.

After an analysis of payroll data, Tulsa World found overtime hours worked dropped 44 percent in the last half of 2016 while the total numbers of hours worked by part-time staff slightly increased from 2015 to 2016.

Despite the cuts in overtime, some employees worked hundreds of hours of overtime last year. All these findings combined has put a squeeze on agency staff that has stuck around.

During one two-week pay period, one employee logged 75 hours of overtime and another employee logged 147 in a two-week pay period in July 2016.

The Oklahoma Department of Veteran's Affairs sent Tulsa World an email stating “the overtime accumulated by the two employees you listed has been addressed.”
