TX (KSWO)- There's a re-newed effort to enact a bathroom ban out of Texas despite harsh criticism from the transgender community.

A group of lawmakers introduced Senate Bill 6 this week.  It will require people to use the restroom that corresponds with the gender on their birth certificate and not what they identify with.

Several religious leaders and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick are now working to get SB-6 to Governor Greg Abbot's desk. They argue it isn't a transgender issue, but about protecting women and children.

But many in the transgender community say they personally attacked by the bill. A similar bathroom bill was passed in North Carolina. It caused major events and entertainment to pull out of the state.
