OK environmental groups speak out against anti-protest bills

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (KWTV)- Environmental groups spoke out against two bills that would impose stricter fines for trespassing at the State capitol today.

According to KWTV, Bold Oklahoma, ACLU of Oklahoma, Sierra Club, and Hashtag No Plains Pipeline are calling on members of the public to stop House bills 1123 and 2128, which establish new fines and prison sentences for trespassing at sites deemed "critical infrastructure," from becoming law.

If passed, these bills would especially impact oil pipelines protests.

In a press release that deemed the bills unconstitutional, the ACLU of Oklahoma said that these bills "seek to chill free speech and discourage acts of civil resistance in Oklahoma."

Both bills passed the House last week.
