LAWTON, OK (KSWO) - Dozens of dogs and cats are now in their new homes following Lawton Animal Welfare's “O'dopt-O'thon” Friday.

The line was out the door as the St. Patrick's Day adoption event kicked off Friday morning. The first 21 pets adopted were free thanks to donations from 7-Up and the Little Dam Bait Shop in Medicine Park.

In total, 23 dogs and 11 cats were adopted. People began lining Friday morning an hour before things even got started so they could ensure they took home the perfect match.

"I am so excited, my two daughters and two sons are going to flip. They're going to love it,” said dog adopter Keith Morrison.

“I'm pretty excited, but I'm pretty sure my girlfriend is more excited than me. But he's a fun little guy and I think it'll be great,” said Drake Fraley, after adopting a new puppy.

26 animals also underwent surgery Friday and will be available for adoption Saturday morning.
