MIDLAND, TX (KWES) -

A new 4-way stop in Midland has been up less than a week and already has homeowners talking. It's all part of the extension of Beal Parkway.

The stop at Thomason and Illinois has some of the community in favor, others are concerned about traffic.

We asked you what you thought and many of you replied on Facebook. Many you are concerned about traffic and safety.

The city of Midland said safety is the reason they added this 4-way stop.

The city said the 4-way stop is necessary with the new road opening. Homeowners in this area has expressed concerned about the amount of traffic going through residential streets in order to get to new areas on the southwest side.

Originally the city wanted to make this intersection into a roundabout but it would be too expensive. The city said engineers will continue to watch traffic flow closely.

The road extension is pedestrian and bike friendly, connecting an existing hike and broke trail. Making three total miles of trail between Beal and Lancaster park.

The new road will open Tuesday morning after a ribbon cutting. The new portion of road extends from Leisure Dr. to the intersection of Illinois Ave. and Thomason Dr.
