IKE grad takes command of Sheppard AFB

WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ)- A Texoman and highly decorated military officer takes the reigns as the new Sheppard Air Force Base 82nd Wing Commander.

It was a homecoming like no other. Lawton Eisenhower High School graduate Colonel Ronald Jolly, Sr. became Sheppard Air Force Base’s new 82nd Training Wing Commander.

"It's a joyous occasion to be around family again," said Jolly.

He's taking over for Brigadier General Patrick Doherty, who's the new San Antonio 19th Air Force Commander. Colonel Jolly says he expects a growth in service men and women in the air force and isn't worried about a shortage of pilots.

"We are doing the right thing. We've increased the pipeline and so we're helping. We're proponents of that," said Jolly.

Colonel Jolly is encouraged by the relationship between Wichita County and Sheppard Air Force Base

"You can't ask for anything more than that because they're providing great support to our air men and that's what it's all about," said Jolly.

Wichita County Judge Woody Gossom says he's impressed with Colonel Jolly and expects the tradition of great leadership at Sheppard Air Force Base to continue.

"I spoke with the deputy commander and a couple of others that have known him for a period of time and they are looking forward to working with him," said Gossom.

Colonel Jolly's military record includes the defense superior service medal, the legion of merit with oak leaf cluster and the bronze star. He's been nominated for promotion to become Brigadier General pending senate confirmation.
