LAWTON, OK (KSWO) - A grass fire in Lawton scorched more than 200 acres Thursday afternoon, threatening several homes and businesses.

The Lawton Fire Department is still unsure of exactly what caused the fire, but they said it started in a field near Northwest 67th St. and Bishop Road. Because of strong winds, the fire quickly spread northwest, burning between two neighborhoods, but never crossing into them. It also approached two businesses, Eye Candi Fitness and Scooters, but neither was damaged.

Between 15 and 20 fire trucks responded to the fire from the Lawton, Geronimo, Cache, Fort Sill and Valley View fire departments. Several tires in the field also ignited, so crews will monitor the fire throughout the night on Thursday.
