Man found on roof at Lawton High School identified

LAWTON, OK (KSWO)- This morning Lawton police and the Lawton Public Schools Police Department investigated a person on the roof of Lawton High School around 7:00.

Michael Plume was found on the roof of the school. If you remember, he is the 18-year-old suspect that called in a threat to MacArthur High School a few months ago.

Students were evacuated for more than an hour during the perimeter and roof top search. No weapons were found anywhere near the building or on the roof.

But LPS Police Chief Hornbeck says that ensuring the safety of staff and students is their highest priority.

“The top priority for us as LPS police officers is the safety of our staff and students. We exercised that again today as we called for the evacuation as we figured out what was going on. We called for the evacuation to make sure there is nothing around on top or in that building that would cause any harm to our staff or students. that was our number one priority to make sure there was no harm done to our staff and students,” said Chief Hornbeck.

Students were able to return to class today after the all clear was given.

Empire Public Schools decided to close their doors today due to an influx of the flu virus. As of January 18th, about 50 students in Pre-K through 5th grade were absent from school. That's about 20 percent of their enrollment. Empire Mayor Perry Brinegar says staff and workers spent the morning cleaning and disinfecting classrooms, hallways, and different areas (gyms, buses, lunchroom). School will resume Monday morning.
