WASHINGTON COUNTY, OK (KTUL) -- An accidental shooting Sunday evening in Washington County resulted in the death of an 8-year-old boy.

According to the sheriff's office, the 8-year-old and his 15-year-old cousin were retrieving some pellets from a nearby home when the younger boy asked if there were any guns.

Investigators say the teenager showed the boy a 12-gauge shotgun that was inside a vehicle. The shotgun was leaned against a tire while the teen searched the vehicle for another gun. According to authorities, the shotgun fell to the ground, discharged one round, and shot the younger boy in the lower abdomen.

According to KTUL, there was no one else home at the time so the teenager loaded the boy into a vehicle and drove back to the first house where family members performed CPR until paramedics could arrive.

Foul play is not suspected; the shooting was likely accidental.
