Save a life for $20 at Lawton Animal Welfare’s Two Heart Adoption event

LAWTON, OK (KSWO)- Lawton's animal shelter is getting in on the pet adoption fun. April 1st is Lawton Animal Welfare's monthly Two Hearts Adoption event.

From 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., the adoption rates for all the puppies and kittens you could want will be reduced from $55 to just $20. All the adoptable animals will be vaccinated, spayed and neutered and city licenses-- so all you'll need to worry about is having a valid ID and $20.

Lawton Animal Welfare Superintendent Russell Anderson has been hosting these adoption events for two-and-a-half years, and he says he's happy to do his part to connect the animals with happy families.

"Being able to get the animals out the front door through adoption, the euthanasia rate really drops, dramatically drops, and our success rate goes up -- and it's not so much about the numbers, really, it’s about...every single animal that comes in here, doing the best we can for them, and I think sending them home into loving homes is a lot better than just making room because the animals keep coming in," Russell said.

Russell suggests that you show up early tomorrow. Crowds start to form as soon as 9:00.

More than half of the 17 people killed when a tourist boat sank on a Branson lake were members of the same Indiana family, and they likely wouldn't have been on the ill-fated trip but for a ticket mix-up.
