Pioneer Park Elementary holds blood drive for teacher's son who's battling cancer

LAWTON, OK (KSWO)- A special blood drive was held at a local elementary school to benefit one of their own.

Pioneer Park Elementary School hosted a special blood drive event this afternoon in their library. It was all to benefit the son of a second-grade teacher who is battling cancer.

Everyone was welcome to come out and give blood.  Every donation gave the boy "credits" that he may need in the future.

One teacher we spoke with says she knows how important giving back is.

“I understand how difficult seeing a family member go through illness can be and we just wanted to do whatever we could to help our friend and colleague and her family,” explained Nancy Wallace.

Having blood donated and credited to a person helps offset some of the financial costs the family is facing.
