Ribbon cutting at CCMH marks completion of Drewry Family Emergency Center

LAWTON, OK (KSWO)- Today, Comanche County Memorial Hospital held their ribbon cutting to mark the completion of the Drewry Family Emergency Center, phase two of the building dedication, and time capsule opening.

The generous donation of the Drewry Family made expanding the department’s patient capacity to 36 beds and more than 40,000 square feet possible.

Stephanie Drewry was present at the ribbon cutting today and she says that her family was simply filling a need in our community.

“It’s for everybody in Lawton. This is for everyone to come here in Lawton and get seen quicker and I think it’s more comfortable for them now… It’s really exciting because I’ve had a lot of people come to me and tell me how beautiful the new emergency room is,” said Stephanie.

We also spoke to Dr. Ben Cooper. He started at Memorial in 1973 as the first full-time ER physician. He has had the opportunity to watch the facility grow and says it’s astounding how far they’ve come over the course of his career.

“It’s beautiful. It’s just gorgeous. When I started I think we had 5 rooms. They were so small you couldn’t turn the beds around in them. It’s really marvelous,” explained Dr. Cooper.

In addition to today’s ribbon cutting and festivities, CCMH also opened two time capsules, one from the 1950’s and one from the 1980’s. They also buried a new time capsule so people can remember this momentous occasion years in the future.
