Lawton man sentenced to life for stabbing death of wife

LAWTON, OK (KSWO)- A Lawton man will spend life in prison for stabbing his wife to death at a motel in 2015.

Herbert Haynes was sentenced to life this morning after being convicted of killing his wife, Irene.

Back in February, Haynes took the stand in his trial, claiming that Irene was high on crack and tried to stab him. He said he had not smoked crack that night, despite the OSBI testifying he had it in his system, and said he was only trying to defend himself when he grabbed a knife and swung it at her several times.
