Lawton-Fort Sill Trash Off is April 8th

LAWTON, OK (KSWO)- If you live in Lawton, you'll have the chance to do some spring cleaning. This is a chance for you to get rid of items you may not normally be able to throw away.

If you have any large trash items or recyclables that can't be thrown away, you can take them to the McMahon Memorial Auditorium parking lot for the 2017 Trash-Off.

The city will have workers out there starting at 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on April 8th to help you.

Items that will be accepted at the collection point include:

  • Used oil
  • Hazardous materials
  • Tires
  • Antifreeze
  • Scrap metal
  • Vacuum cleaners
  • Fluorescent bulbs
  • Appliance
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Batteries
  • Latex and oil based Paint
  • Fire alarms
  • Mixed chemicals
  • Trash
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Pesticides
  • Herbicides
  • Lawton care products
  • Pool chemicals
  • Fuels

They will not accept lab waste, ammunition, explosives, compressed gas cylinders, commercial waste, tractor tires, and tires on rims.

The supervisor for the event says this saves the city at least $100,000 in terms of manpower for waste removal.

“These services are actually very expensive and not commonly provided so we do this once a year to provide the citizens with the opportunity and the capability to get rid of these items at no charge,” said Joshua Leach with Neighborhood Services.

The Lawton Food Bank will also be out accepting donations.
