Iranian captive who inspired film shares her story of hope

DUNCAN, OK (KSWO)- Today, the Simmons Center welcomed a special guest speaker sharing the story of hope and how one person can change a life.

Mahtob Mahmoody shared her story today.  Mahmoody and her mother were held captive by her father in Iran during the 1980's.  The tale was later adapted to the big screen in the movie 'Not Without My Daughter.’

Today, Mahmoody spoke on the month they were held hostage and their ultimate escape. She emphasizes how one person can change an entire life.

“We were held hostage for 18 months before we were able to escape with the help of a complete stranger who risked his life and spent his life savings to help us--an Iranian, a Muslim man. He didn't want me to grow up thinking that all Iranians or all Muslims are like my dad and his family.”

Mahmoody has spent much of her life sharing her message all across the globe. Her debut book, My Name is Mahtob, is available for purchase online and in bookstores.
