LAWTON, OK (KSWO) - On Tuesday night, the charter proposal that would have allowed the Lawton City Council to set residency requirements for department heads was put on hold.

Councilman Dwight Tanner had placed the item on the agenda, but instead moved to table it so the council would have more time to think about it. But, he said he still believes people working and making decisions for the city should also live in the Lawton-Fort Sill area.

Also, Woods Park and North Legion Park in Lawton were declared surplus and will soon be put up for sale. Two other city-owned properties, Airport Park and a piece of land near Lake Ellsworth were excluded from the decision. Officials said a public hearing needs to be held for Airport Park before it's declared surplus because it's worth more than $50,000 dollars. And an easement issue next to the land near Lake Ellsworth needs to be settled before it's sold.
