WASHINGTON D.C. (KWTV)- State trooper Nicholas Dees’ mother is making a push to end distracted driving nationwide after her son was hit and killed by a distracted driver two years ago while on duty.
Shelley Russell's next stop is at the U.S. Capitol.
Trooper Dees and Trooper Keith Burch were investigating a semi crash on I-40 near Shawnee two years ago when Steven Clark crashed into both troopers, killing Dees and severely injuring Burch. Clark was on his phone updating social media account at the time of the accident.
Russell has been instrumental in getting texting and driving banned in Oklahoma.
