Bill could add new sales tax for pro sporting events

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (KSWO)- The Oklahoma senate has passed a new bill that would add an eight percent sales tax to tickets for professional sporting events.

House Bill 2350 comes as lawmakers try to plug a nearly $900-million budget hole. But adding sales tax wasn't part of the deal when the NBA first moved one of its franchises to Oklahoma City 12 years ago.

"This very specific incentive was passed in exchange for the NBA coming here, and there has been no new communications between the two parties about renegotiating the deal,” said Sen. David Holt.

If signed into law, the tax would go into effect before the 2017-18 NBA season. It would not affect tickets for OU or OSU games.
