DUNCAN, OK (KSWO) – The Duncan Public Schools Foundation hosted a rally to gather support for an upcoming school bond election.
The "Power of Ten" voter rally was held Tuesday evening to remind people of the May 9 vote and break down the importance of supporting the bond.
The bond would extend an existing school bonded set to expire next year. One part of the bond would one provide much-needed funds to Duncan's school bus system, which requires significant repair.
It would also continue the distribution of Chromebooks to students to bring educational technology in line with schools across the country and better prepare students for the more connected world
Foundation Executive Director Haylee Root stressed the important of the bond’s passing, considering recent and upcoming state budget cuts.
"Our schools cannot continue to fund basic needs at this point, and that bond is critical for that,” she said. "Even if someone doesn’t have kids, or children in the Duncan Public School system, our community will benefit from this – a school is the heart of a community, and a thriving school promotes a thriving economy."
