LOGAN COUNTY, OK (KSWO)- A community and state in mourning after an Oklahoma deputy was killed in the line of duty.

Deputy David Wade has been taken by a procession from the medical examiner's office in Oklahoma City to a funeral home in Guthrie.

Officials say he was serving an eviction notice when he was shot. Wade was taken to a hospital where he later died. The suspect then took off in his truck. Police were later able to find the suspect and take him into custody.

We are learning more about the suspect in that case. Authorities said he had a history of encounters with law enforcement. In 2000, he led them on a chase that started in Perry, where police opened fire on his vehicle after he brandished an AR-15. Police say in 2015, a woman told them the suspect tied her up and held her against her will. That case was later dropped.

Officials said knowing his past, when they heard his name come across the scanner yesterday, they knew they had to act fast.

"If he did it back then, I mean, we remember that day. I do because I was here. So when we heard the news and it was him, you know our thought process was he's not afraid to come at an officer with a gun," said Chief Brian Thomas of the Perry Police.

Surveillance footage from a gas station shows that suspect carjacking a woman in the town of Coyle. It happened just after he reportedly shot deputy David Wade. A witness says the suspect first tried to break into a parked car at the gas station before going to the front of the store and carjacking a woman at gunpoint.

"She kind of opened her window and he stuck a gun through the window, and she ran away. She was scared. She just ran away. The car was on ignition, and he just took off with her car."

The carjacking victim was thankfully not hurt. Police were later able to catch up to the suspect, who is now behind bars.
