LAWTON, OK (KSWO)- This year was the ninth Earth Day celebration at Cameron University made possible by the Lawton Northeast On-Line Branch Lions Club, a branch of the Lawton Northeast Lions Club.

Allen Granger, president of the Lawton Northeast On-Line Branch Lions Club, and members of the club were on hand to celebrate the planting.

"The Lawton Northeast On-Line Lions Club is once again proud to donate an Eastern Redbud tree to Cameron University in honor of Earth Day 2017," says Granger, club founder, and past president. "This has been a tradition for our club since its inception in 2009… It is our hope that the trees which surround Aggie Gym will bring joy to generations of students, faculty and staff at Cameron University. The trees are a reflection of our desire to make Earth Day more than just a holiday. Together with Cameron University, we strive to demonstrate to our community what can be accomplished by teamwork to improve our amazing, yet fragile planet."

“The Lawton Northeast On-Line Branch Lions Club has created a wonderful tradition by observing Earth Day with a tree planting on the Cameron campus,” says Albert Johnson, Jr., Vice President for University Advancement. “The redbud trees surrounding Aggie Gym brighten up the building each spring with their colorful blooms. We are truly grateful that Allen Granger, Joe Wotring and the other club members continue to support Cameron University.”
