OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (KSWO) – April 20th is Statewide Foster Care Call to Action Day to promote community awareness of the need for Oklahoma foster families, foster care and overall support for foster families throughout the state of Oklahoma.
"Our goal, simply put, is to recruit more foster families," said Governor Mary Fallin. "These children are in state custody through no fault of their own. These children need foster families to love and support them during their time of need."
More than 80 events have been planned throughout today with at least one informational meeting in each of the state's 77 counties. Oklahomans may see where the meetings are and who is hosting them by going to the Oklahoma Fosters Facebook page and clicking on events. There are two events this afternoon in Lawton.
"Children across the state are placed in our care every day, driving our continual need for foster families," said DHS Director Ed Lake. "To ensure those children stay connected to their families, schools and communities, we need foster families in every city, county and school district. Every child deserves a family and we particularly need families for kids with special medical needs and disabilities."
