The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary Fashion Show helps provide funds for community projects year-round

LAWTON, OK (KSWO)- Today, The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary hosted their annual “It’s a Spring Fling” Fashion Show at Great Plains Technology Center. The event has been a Lawton tradition for around 30 years now. This is the organization’s only fundraiser of the year and all of the proceeds go to the Lawton Salvation Army to support community projects like the Angel Tree and Boys and Girls Club.

Former 7News Anchor Jan Stratton was the MC at the event today and she says that this group’s commitment to the Lawton area is what keeps her involved year after year.

“What impresses me about the organization, nationally and internationally, is that the bulk of the monies, donations, and contributions go right back into the local organization to help those who need it most,” said Stratton, a board member of The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary.

We also spoke with the President of The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, Virginia McComas. She says that working for the community is rewarding.

“It’s so heart-rendering to help the community and the children in our community. That’s why I’ve been at it so long. I can’t leave,” explained McComas. “We are to take care of others, to love other, and to do Christ’s work. That gives me more in my heart and soul than I could ever return.

If you would like to join The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary to make a difference in our community, please contact the Lawton Salvation Army at (580) 355-1802.
