LAWTON, OK (KSWO)- There will be an overnight event April 21st in Lawton to raise money to support homeless families in the area. It's Family Promise of Lawton's annual Box City event.
It starts at 3:30 in the afternoon at Cameron University's Veteran's Grove. It costs $25 a person to take part, $10 dollars for kids 7 to 9, and kids 6 and under are free.
Participants will decorate cardboard boxes that they will sleep in overnight. They will be judged tomorrow morning, with the top three picks getting trophies.
Courtney Risch of Family Promise of Lawton says it's a good way to get the message of homelessness out to the community.
"In no way do we think this is a simulation of what homelessness could be, but I think it sheds a little bit of light on how uncomfortable it is and how traumatic it is," said Risch.
There will be games and music, and the Lawton Salvation Army will provide dinner.
And, while online registration ended yesterday, you can still register while at the event. For more information, visit their Facebook page.
