OK Death Penalty Review recommends continuing the suspension of executions; victim’s mother speaks out

OK (KSWO)- The group tasked with reviewing Oklahoma's use of the death penalty is advising the state to continue its suspension of executions. The Oklahoma Death Penalty Review Commission made the unanimous decision as it released its final 300-page report.

The commission says the number of serious flaws with the state's execution system are just too much for them to advise that the state resume the death penalty. Executions have been on hold for more than two years while new protocols for carrying out death sentences can be developed.

An Oklahoma woman is speaking out against that report's decision. Her son was found dead six years ago, and she says she believes he was murdered. So far, no one has been arrested in his death.

His mother says stay of executions should not be granted based on the lethal injection drugs' expiration date.

"Did those people think of the violence or what they inflicted on the person that they took that life?" asked Chanda Gilbert.

Her son was found dead at Keystone Lake in 2011.
