LAWTON, OK (KSWO)- On Sunday the community opened their car trucks and handed out candy to the kids of southwest Oklahoma.

Over three thousand people showed off their best costumes today at Toyota of Lawton's Trunk or Treat event.

Kids could grab free treats, food, and sign up for the best costume contest.

The competition was broken into age groups.

There were pumpkin costumes, Barbie, witches and more.

Winners had the chance to take home 700 dollars.

General Manager Scott Valdez said the day was all about giving back to the community and celebrating Halloween early.

"I've gone through I think it was 25- thousand pieces of candy up front and I thought that was going to be enough,” said Valdez. “Some of my employers were saying not that's not enough you've got to have more. And we've gone through that!”

11-year-old Madison Nez was one of those kids gathering as much candy as possible and hoping to take home the best costume title.
She dressed up as a unicorn.

"I thought I would be a unicorn because I like to change my hair into pretty colors,” said Madison.

The event also featured a motorcycle and car show.
However, Madison said the best part of the day was walking away with a bunch of free candy!

More than half of the 17 people killed when a tourist boat sank on a Branson lake were members of the same Indiana family, and they likely wouldn't have been on the ill-fated trip but for a ticket mix-up.
