Sheriff’s deputy placed on leave after crashing his patrol car

PIEDMONT, OK (KSWO)- A Canadian County sheriff's deputy is out of a job this morning after being arrested for drunkenly crashing his patrol car in Piedmont.

Authorities say Cameron Henderson was not on duty at the time -- but he was driving his patrol car and had his firearm on him. They say he took out several mailboxes and damaged fences in two separate neighborhoods before stopping at a home.

Henderson was arrested and immediately put on unpaid leave.

"We can't condone this type of behavior.  He was off duty and chose to make a bad decision.  It wasn't in the scope of his duties but we're going to make it right.  We've already talked to insurance about helping these homeowners," said Sheriff Chris West.

Henderson had been with the department for about 3 years but had only been on patrol for the past several months.

He has bonded out jail.
