LAWTON, OK (KSWO) – The Lawton-Fort Sill Co-op gathered to celebrate and honor its members and volunteers.
The group held its annual Dinges Awards Celebration at the Hilton Garden Inn Thursday night.
The event gave out awards for cooperative events, highlighting qualities like having the most volunteers or leaving the most impact.
But Co-Op chairman Mary Spannagel said the event was about more than just giving out awards – it was about connecting with the people who work to better the community.
"We truly appreciate the partnership, and very seldom do we get together for an event where we get the time to say thank you,” she said. “So tonight's event is a way of saying thank you, a way of getting to visit with these folks we sometimes don't get so see unless they're volunteering, and it's a great way to partner as a community."
And during the event, the Association of the United States Army presented the City of Lawton with a Distinguished Service Award for its work in supporting homeless veterans.
