Lack of Medicaid funding shuts down residential senior center in OK

WYNNEWOOD, OK (KSWO)- A nursing center in Wynnewood says it had to close down over a lack of funding from the state's Medicaid program.

The Wynnewood Care Center says they had to find new homes for 24 residents earlier this week.

They've been moved to facilities in Pauls Valley, Wewoka, and Purcell.  The move means some of the residents are now further away from their friends and family members.

"The place in Wynnewood, I was pretty happy… The first night here I couldn't sleep real well because it was a new place and all,” said resident Gay Lynne Vincent.

"Over the last few years, none of the reimbursement for our Medicaid residents, which are 99 percent of our residents, have increased. It's either stayed stagnant or we've had a cut in our provider reimbursement. So now in the legislature this week, we're looking at another four percent cut,” said Administrator Marilyn Yeakley.

They said they were also able to find new jobs for people working at the nursing center.
