DUNCAN, OK (KSWO)- Duncan Community Development fed over one thousand people an early Thanksgiving meal on Saturday. The event was held at the Duncan Senior Citizens Center. Duncan Community Development or DCD came together with other community partners to collect donations for the meal. Senior Citizens and their families could enjoy homemade food like turkey, yams, and dressing.
Vice President Trevin Stevenson said the goal of the day was fellowship and giving back to those who once gave to them.
"I had one elderly lady say that it's nice to sit down and have a meal with someone when you live alone," said Stevenson. "So, to hear something like that's the reason we put on events like this."
Stevenson said they raised $1,900 to put on this year's Thanksgiving dinner and plans to continue the tradition.
The group is also still looking to collect donations for future events.
