Boy Scouts donate food to Lawton Food Bank

LAWTON, OK (KSWO)-Lawton's Boy Scout Troop 4175 of the Black Beaver district donated over 7,000 pounds of food to the Lawton Food Bank on Saturday. It's all part of an annual program for the Boy Scouts of America called 'Scouting for Food.' The project has been around since 1985 and involves collecting food for local food banks. Local troop members visited 600 houses last week to drop off donation bags. On Saturday, they picked up the non-perishable items and took them to the food bank.

Senior Patrol Leader Casey Ngo said the day is all about giving back to those in need of food.

"They just need it and our troop felt like we needed to give it to them," said Ngo.

The collected food will go directly to families in need in the Lawton area.

The Boy Scouts will also hold another event on Sunday at the Veteran Centers to salute vets. The event is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and all are welcome to join.
