LAWTON, OK (KSWO) - Valley View Volunteer Fire Department held their fifth annual chili fundraiser on Saturday at LO Ranch. The department is raising money for new equipment, maintenance and to finish building their fire station on North East Cache Road. Firefighters are already operating out of the station, but funds raised will continue construction on the inside of the building. They will fix up the classrooms and bathrooms.
On Saturday, people gave a small donation to eat chili dogs, partake in a car show, silent auction, and a raffle.
Fire Chief Lin Newton said their hope is to get help from the community to continue doing their job.
"We don't get any money except through donations like this," said Newton. "We get a little money through the county and a little through the state throughout the year, but that is just operating funds. This right here is what we really count on to fund us for the whole year."
Newton said they've already raised $6,000.
If you would like to donate to the department, you can contact the fire department through their Facebook.
