LAWTON, OK (KSWO)- Before we know it Black Friday will be here and stores will be filled with holiday shoppers, but besides hundreds of customers police say there's also an increase in shoplifters. Studies show more than 164 million consumers plan to shop over Thanksgiving weekend.
Right on West Gore Boulevard is where you'll find A House Full Resale.
The store has been open for six years and is normally busy during the holidays.
Which is what store owner Kindra Dunning said makes it harder to watch out for thieves.
"We're not always expecting it so it's hard sometimes to look out for," said Dunning.
She said she and her staff have many ways of protecting their large inventory and most importantly their customers.
"We have more people helping us out in the store," said Dunning. "We do have a security system. We do have a few extra cameras installed as well and we do have extra precautions."
For shoppers hoping to get in on those holiday deals, Sergeant Timothy Jenkins said it's important to have a game plan as you collect those gifts to avoid the worst from happening.
He said shoppers typically make this one mistake.
"Just not being aware," said Jenkins. "Going to your car and loading your stuff in all at once. Not locking your doors when you're going store to store and people see stuff in your car."
Dunning said her hope this holiday season is that shoppers simply stay in the spirit.
"It's just so much more than the big stores," said Dunning. "That ten dollars can literally be the difference between hamburgers and steak that night."
If you see any suspicious activity you are encouraged to call the police.
