OK (KSWO)- The executive director of Oklahoma's Department of Veterans' Affairs has announced his retirement.
Retired Major General Myles Deering was named the executive director of the department in 2015. Before that, he served as Oklahoma's adjutant general and worked on the cabinets of both Mary Fallin and Brad Henry.
In his 43 years in the military, he commanded the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and led Task Force Oklahoma in response to disasters like Hurricane Katrina.
His retirement will take effect at the end of January.
