LAWTON, Ok (RNN Texoma) -
A recount is currently underway to decide the Democrat candidate for Comanche County Commissioner, District 3.
The race between Randy Bass and Kerry Givens was a close one, with Givens winning by 25 votes on June 26.
After the results came in, Randy Bass requested a recount, now election board volunteers are counting each vote by hand.
They are focusing on "overvotes," which are situations where someone marked the box for both candidates. If both boxes are marked, the vote does not count. But the voting machines are very sensitive. Sometimes, voters will completely mark one box but accidentally leave a small mark on the other. If that’s the case, the machine will mark the ballot invalid but the election board can vote to count the ballot.
There were more than 60 ballots that the machine did not count, so Bass filed the petition for a recount hoping that those ballots will bring him out on top.
