LAWTON, OK (KSWO) -Imagine catching a thief in the act of stealing stuff right out of your garage..then running off. It happened to a Lawton woman over the weekend and it was all caught on camera.
The thief broke in through an open garage door.
The homeowner said his wife cracked open their garage door to bring a little fresh air inside, she went back in the house and about an hour later, she returned to find a man in a white t-shirt with items in his hand. He then quickly crawled back under the garage door, getting away.
"When she opened the door, next thing she knows she saw somebody dive under the garage door and run out. By the time she figured out what was going on and opened the garage and looked outside there was a guy driving a small bicycle away from the house," said Saucedo.
Joe Saucedo got a phone call from his wife shortly after the incident and came home to find several things missing.
"From above he took my sunglasses which are prescription already and worth about $300 dollars and then my wife's military ID card and a few other things," said Saucedo.
Saucedo said the thief also took some change and a knife.
"When she came out she caught him by surprise I imagine because if you look around I have a lot of tools and other things he could have taken if he had time," said Saucedo.
He said the incident could have been much worse.
"You always hear horror stories and the scary thing is that if she would have closed the garage door or confronted him something was going to happen I imagine," said Saucedo.
Saucedo said his neighborhood is quiet and he's never had any break into his home before.
"It does remind you that these things happen..these things happen anywhere. I told my wife to take precautions and stuff don't be leaving the garage door open just because it's hot. Everybody else garage door is closed so they are okay," said Saucedo.
Even though they filed a police report, Saucedo had this message for the person responsible.
"I would like to tell him that his day is coming, you know he will get caught and justice is going to be done for breaking in. He didn't take much but from little things it could escalate and so I think he will get caught," Saucedo.
Saucedo says he's working with detectives to find the man responsible. He is also going to visit his neighbors and warn them to be on the lookout.
