OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (RNN Texoma) - Governor Mary Fallin signed a proclamation on Thursday which will let Oklahoma voters decide on a public school funding measure in November.
State Question 801 would allow local school boards the ability to use existing property tax funds for things like teacher pay and textbooks without raising taxes. Currently, property tax revenue is primarily used for building funds.
The measure will only need a simple majority (51-percent) to pass.
Governor Fallin has until August 27 to sign proclamations if they are to be voted on in the November 6 election.
