Police investigating overnight shooting

LAWTON, Ok (RNN Texoma) - Police are investigating an overnight shooting in the 400 block of NW 55th Street.

A neighbor said that she heard two gunshots last night around 10:30 p.m. and called police.

"You could hear them-pop pop," said the neighbor.

The neighbor and her husband then went outside and found the victim's roommate in the street, clearly shaken up. The neighbor said they also saw two bullet holes in the front door. That is when they went inside to help out.

"I have medical assistant training so I had gone in to see if I could help but there was just too much blood," said the neighbor. "There was just no way and I couldn't see where the wound was and I didn't want to move her. I didn't know if it was neck or what. She was laying on the floor in front of the door."

She said the victim was still alive, but was not communicating.

"Her eyes were open," said the neighbor. "We were talking to her. She wasn't really responding to us. She did speak to the police when they got there and they were talking to her. They were trying to provide medical care to her."

The victim was flown from Comanche County Memorial Hospital to a hospital in Oklahoma City. The neighbor said this type of violence is unusual for this neighborhood.

"The majority of the people are older. They've been here since the neighborhood was built. It's real quiet," said the neighbor. "I don't have a problem with the kids riding their bikes up and down the street, nothing. It's like, ideal. And then for something like this to happen, so..."
